YOUR KINDNESS KEEPS US GOING.
The Healing Horse Sanctuary is a registered charity that started in 2008 with just 2 horses and a willingness to help horses and ponies that needed desperate help where there didn’t seem any help or hope at all.
Be that because the horses and ponies were injured, ill, deformed, about to be euthanised, abused, traumatised, homeless, discarded, unridable, starving, and other issues.
We work brilliantly with our amazing vet Gav at 608 Equine vets and farrier James to help our horses physically as well as using MANY holistic health methods to support our animals with their health, be it physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually. We work with many practitioners AND we have a large majority of our team who offer holistic health modalities from Reiki to aromatherapy and herbal medicine and more.
We allow our horses to live in family groups, forming deep bonds, that in itself is healing for them.
We NEVER use any force, harsh words, shout or use violence at all. We can’t condone that. Instead we use good leadership skills, positive body language, breath and calming energy to create meaningful relationships with our animals. They then understand our requests and are willing to step back, move forward, follow us, etc so everything remains calm and coherent. This is just like a herd of horses would operate. We are an extension of their herd.
We always knew that once our horses and ponies recovered and healed from their pain and their past they would go on to not only live happy lives surrounded in love and celebration but also to help people. We just knew it.
And now they are.
We have so many ways our horses and ponies touch peoples lives.
We have Open days and other community events where children and adults can meet our animals. It’s lovely to see.
And we also have much more intimate opportunities where we witness profound connections being made within our Therapy sessions, and our Meet and Greet visits.
Children and adults leave lighter. Their stress seems to have lessened or even gone! They feel relaxed, hopeful, inspired and happier.
This makes us very happy and we know what we are doing is of such value for animals and people.
We are a self funded charity so we need to funds to continue our work.

WHAT YOUR SUPPORT HAS ACHIEVED
WHAT YOUR SUPPORT HAS ACHIEVED
MUD CONTROL MATS
After an appeal, we were able to raise the money to pay for 200 mud control mats. Increasingly wet winters have made it difficult for some of our horses to walk through the mud as the weather turns each year. Our team worked hard installing mud control mats in all of our fields.
Since then, the horses have benefited from having a mud-free area to stand on during feeds or simply for a rest. Mud can increase the risk of abscesses, which are painful and can be dangerous to some horses. Some of our older residents struggle with the strain the mud puts on their tendons.
Being able to install mud control mats has allowed our horses to be safe and comfortable without having to resort to the use of stables.
Thank you!
HERBAL REMEDIES
At the Healing Horse Sanctuary, we like to use a variety of methods to maintain the health and well-being of our horses. One of our regular activities involves offering our horses herbal remedies. With your support, we can offer them the opportunity to self-select which herbs are best suited to them as often as possible. Rosehips are always a firm favourite, a powerful antioxidant which is packed with essential vitamins and minerals.
Your donations enable us to support our horses, cats and chickens in a variety of ways.
Thank you!
THE WELLNESS PADDOCK
Sometimes our horses need a safe space to rest and heal. Max was one of our ponies in need of a safe space to rest and heal following an abscess in his hoof. Horses are meant to live in herds, something we work hard to maintain for our residents. Being able to see and communicate with other horses is an important part of maintaining their well-being. This is something that box rest in a stable doesn’t always allow. Funds from our sponsors have helped us to build Max a paddock within his field so that he had somewhere to heal while still being able to be a part of his herd.
Thank you!
HAYBELL
In 2023, we managed to purchase a new haybell feeder for our little ponies. We have never been able to afford new hay feeders before and have always had second hand ones. These haybells are easy to manoeuvre around the field and are much safer than the metal ones as they are made from robust polyethylene and have no metal components. They have 4 feeding ports which means all our ponies have a place to feed at the same time. They are designed to fit over the large round bales. But the main thing is, it protects the hay in all weather conditions and minimises wastage.
We are so happy that your donations and support has helped our little ponies.
Thank you!
CHICKEN RUN AND CHICKEN COOP
Our chickens are delighted that they now have a sturdy, well-designed, fox proof run with lots of space for them to scratch around. They also love their new coop where they can take themselves off for a rest, lay their eggs or simply shelter from the weather elements. Their previous run was broken into and was just not safe for them to be out in when our volunteers weren’t around to supervise. Their run prior to that was blown down during a bad storm and high winds. So, this new run is wind proof and fox proof.
Our chickens are so grateful for your donations as they just love being out in the fresh air whilst feeling safe.
