SOPHIE’S HERD

  • Sophie

    SOPHIE - Herd Leader

Before Sophie joined us, she was a much-loved pony. Sadly, she birthed a foal but unfortunately the foal didn’t make it and crossed over rainbow bridge. Another foal had been born and rejected by its mother, so Sophie became their surrogate mother.

When Sophie first arrived, she wasn’t comfortable around our volunteers and wouldn’t come near us. Our volunteers spent hours, days and weeks just taking it in turns to just sit in her field.

The day she finally made her own decision to walk up close to us and take a carrot from our hand was like a dream come true.

Over time Sophie has become braver and more courageous. Sophie is so brave now that she took over the running of the 4 little ponies’ herd and is a great Mother, protector and leader to Sapphire, Sunny and Thumper

  • Sapphire

    SAPPHIRE

Although Sapphire showed signs of stress, anxiety and sadness when she arrived, she came from a much-loved home, even competing in numerous competitions. This would explain her beautiful trot when she runs.

Sapphire is such a happy girl and absolutely adores cuddles and attention. She is so loving and affectionate and is not afraid of expressing herself.

Her favourite thing is food, and she will be anyone’s friend for a carrot or two!!

  • Sunny

    SUNNY

Sunny was born with insufficient bones in his legs, and this is why he is so small and could never be ridden.

We rescued him in 2013 after being approached by a lady that didn’t want him.

Sunny is a happy pony who loves meeting visitors, having his photo taken and loves nothing more than a yummy carrot or treat from his supporters. He is a mighty pony who is not aware of his size and lives a fulfilled life.

Sunny has a cheeky personality and can be stubborn at times, but he is very gorgeous and comical too.

  • Thumper

    THUMPER

This gorgeous little man came to us in 2023 as a companion for Sunny after he sadly lost his friend Muffin.

Thumper had been passed around throughout his life, having almost as many homes as years old! He was mainly used as companion pony for other horses so hadn’t really experienced real long-term stability or love.

Thumper was quite unsure when he first arrived and took him some time to find his place within the herd due to him wanting to be in charge. But Sophie has always been the Mommy pony, so no one listened to his demands. He soon settled and understood that you don’t always have to be in charge to be loved.

He is now very confident within Sophie’s herd and loves his other pony friends and often tries to pinch their breakfasts.

He is a sweet boy, who is still learning that cuddles are enjoyable and us humans just want to show him love and affection.

He has surprised us by stepping forward instantly to offer his services as a therapy pony to children as he is a natural healer.
