Our lovely girl, Elsie joined our sanctuary on 11th November 2023 with her 4 little friends Gladys, Ethel, Penelope and Betty, after being rescued from an egg farm by The British Hen Welfare Trust

Elsie is a very happy, confident and comical little lady. She is loving her life and takes everything in her stride. She thoroughly enjoys playing with her friends, exploring the sanctuary grounds and scratching for worms and grubs.

She is often found trying to wonder into the horse’s field, pecking at left over food that the horses may have dropped at breakfast.

Unfortunately, ex battery hens are never healthy as they are bred solely for producing eggs and end up having underlying health conditions. Therefore, every day with this lovely little chicken is a blessing and we aim to give her the best life.
