Charlie is a handsome, black horse with big white feet.  He is a gentle boy who came to live with us in 2021 at the age of 15.  His human mum was having serious health issues.  She had Charlie since he was a baby and was desperate for him to live at a sanctuary as she didn’t want to sell him.

We agreed to take him and give him a peaceful life where he wouldn’t be ridden.

It took a few months for Charlie to settle into the herd as he had never lived in a herd before.  He had also never lived with female horses before, so he was intrigued by them and was eager to make friends with the girls!  The other male horses in the herd weren’t exactly happy with Charlies excited behaviour with the girls initially so they chased him into the other field until he could calm down.  He eventually understood the boundaries and now everyone gets on brilliantly.

Charlie has blossomed within his herd and has made some beautiful friendships.  He is definitely the baby of the herd and he’s happy with that.  He has never wanted any responsibility, but through his gentle, peaceful, loving demeanour and we have discovered that he is a natural therapy horse.  He absolutely loves doing Healing with Horses Sessions with people.

Our volunteers adore Charlie and enjoy giving him a cuddle.  We love this gentle boy.
